Rod Planck

McMillan, Michigan, USA

Rod Planck’s interest in the natural world has spanned a lifetime. He began using a camera to express his love of nature over twenty years ago. His vast experience in the field has led to a broad understanding of the natural world – and a deep respect that is the basis for his interest in nature photography. This respect demands a non-manipulative, non-commercial approach to photography. As a result, Rod’s images featured here and his seminar/workshop programs do not contain images of captive animals from game farms or zoos, or computer-manipulated images.

For Rod, photography is first and foremost a creative process. He believes that to venture into the field for the sole purpose of making marketable images is to miss out on the most important part of the nature photography experience – being outdoors, gaining an understanding of your subject matter, and engaging your creative capacity.

Rod’s photographs have graced the pages of Audubon, Sierra, National Wildlife, Natural History, Backpacker, Birders World, Ranger Rick, and Photo Life. His images have appeared in numerous calendars, textbooks, and advertising layouts. Rod has also been a contributor to many photo books, including The Nature of America and The Spirit of The North.
